The rooms we could not open alone. The people whose relationships, ears and reach sit behind the work, named here with their role stated plainly.
Nearly a decade inside Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment, where instinct, talent and opportunity became records. Mike's work stretched well past traditional A&R: identifying talent, developing artists, hearing the song before the demo caught up, connecting collaborators, structuring opportunity and moving ideas into the rooms where careers change.
He signed Rakim to Aftermath, signed Truth Hurts and helped move the project that produced “Addictive,” brought Busta Rhymes into the Aftermath ecosystem, pursued The Game long before the world knew the name, and put together the deal that made Dr. Dre executive producer of Xzibit's Restless. He coordinated the connection between Dre and Mary J. Blige for “Family Affair,” and was part of the executive infrastructure around 50 Cent, Eminem and Eve during the era that redefined the genre. Bruno Mars' early demo reached him first.
After Aftermath he built his own imprint, Big Ego Entertainment, then a production and label partnership with Sony Urban Music and Columbia Records.
